The mechanical tappet ensures that your valve train precisely follows the camshaft's movement - without any electronic frills. This part (OEM 021 109 309G) is found in T2a - T2b - T3 - and Type 4 engines and wears out over the years - especially if you don't regularly check your valve clearance. Replace it preventively if you already have your engine disassembled - as it's no longer an expensive repair once it's apart. Combine this with a new valve set and an overhaul of your camshaft for optimal operation.
