This middle reinforcement sill (OEM 211-809-583 A) is the skeletal hard component that structurally holds your T2a or T2b together. Mounted on the left, this piece takes a lot of abuse from rust and vibrations, so if you notice your door no longer closes properly or you hear rattles from the middle of your bodywork, replacement is not a luxury. Combine this with the right side and your T2 will be back on a solid foundation.
