This vertical rubber seal between the engine and firewall (OEM 111 813 741G) prevents vibrations and heat from entering the cabin. After decades - the rubber hardens and becomes porous - leading to more engine noise in the cabin and loss of insulation. This part fits all years of T1 - T2a - T2b - Beetle - and Type 181. Combine this with the horizontal version - and you'll have the complete engine-firewall insulation neatly restored.
