These copper shims are located under each cylinder of your M10 engine and ensure good heat dissipation and electrical conduction to the block. They wear out over time due to thermal stress and must be replaced if you remove the cylinders for maintenance or overhaul. This is the original set of two pieces according to OEM number 311 119 317A. Combine this with new cylinder gaskets and cylinder head gaskets for a complete overhaul.
