This oil strainer is located in the oil supply to the cylinder head and catches metal wear and dirt before it reaches your pistons. The original Volkswagen part (021 115 175) is usually worn out when restoring an old T2 or T3 - so it's smart to replace it preventively. Combine this with a fresh oil filter and the correct oil type for maximum effect.
