The original main bearings in your Type 1 engine ensure a stable crankshaft that will last for years, as long as you maintain them properly and install new ones immediately when replacement is due. These standard size bearings fit all classic air-cooled engines from the Beetle to the Type 3, and they are essential for a smoothly running engine. When installing, check the crankshaft for wear and always lubricate the bearings with clean oil. Combine these with a new gasket, and you'll have the system completely fault-free.
