This crankshaft gear (OEM 111 105 223) drives your distributor and is located between the crankshaft and the distributor. The gear must fit precisely and be properly adjusted - otherwise you will have timing problems. For T1 - T2 - Beetle - Ghia - and Type 4 engines - this is a standard part that you will need sooner or later. Combine this with a new distributor or a complete timing set if you're already working on it.
