These Type 1 main bearings fit almost all classic VW engines up to and including the T3 and are standard size for those wishing to rebuild their engine block. The 1.00 mm standard crankshaft diameter and 20 mm width make this the most common size, so it's readily available from manufacturers. You will need these if you are truly removing the crankshaft and the bearings are worn, as a sturdy bearing shell is essential for a reliable engine. Combine this with a new gasket set and you're all set for your engine build.
