This grommet ensures that the shift rod runs smoothly through the shift rod tunnel without oil leaking from the gearbox. On T1 and Karmann Ghia models - this rubber wears out quickly - especially if you shift a lot. The original part number is 111 301 289. Combine this with a new shift rod and retaining plates for a complete overhaul of your shifting system.
