This oil seal is located where the rear axle passes through the gearbox - keeping the oil where it belongs. Without a proper seal - you will lose oil and your bearing will run dry - which will not end well. The OEM number 211 501 303 fits universally on the T1 and many other air-cooled Vdubs. Combine this part with fresh axle oil - and you'll be good to go.
