The rear shift rod connects your gearbox to the shifting mechanism and ensures that your shifts are precisely where they belong. This is replacement part 214 711 171 - suitable for T1 and various other air-cooled models. After decades - wear can cause sloppy shifting or even jamming - so a replacement rod is usually a good idea if you're already working on it. Combine this with a new clutch cable and your shifting will feel like new again.
