This bearing is located at the bottom of your steering column and bears all the weight of the steering wheel. After decades - it naturally wears out - which becomes noticeable as the steering wheel turns more stiffly or creaks. The original VW bearing 211 415 585 is not expensive and can be quickly replaced if you're already working in the area. Combine this with a new steering head seal if you're already accessing it.
