This grommet is located where your steering column passes through the firewall and prevents water and dirt from leaking into your engine compartment. In T1 and Karmann Ghia models, this rubber wears out over the years, leading to rust around the opening. The OEM number 113 415 607A is hard to find, so this is your chance to get it right. Combine this with a new steering column bushing while you're at it.
