This seal is located at the top of your steering box and prevents oil from leaking out of the system. Over the years, the rubber can dry out and crack, leading to a slow oil leak. You can recognize it by damp spots under the car or a looser steering feel. Replace this ring (OEM 311 415 277) preventatively during your steering box maintenance. Combine this with a new oil seal at the bottom and fresh steering oil for the complete picture.
