DOT4 brake fluid is what you need if you want your brakes to remain reliable - especially with more intensive use or in warmer weather. This is the original VW specification (B000 700 A3) and works in all brake systems of your Type 1 - T2 or Karmann Ghia. Check your fluid levels during every seasonal maintenance and replace if the fluid has become dark or cloudy. Combine this with a set of new brake hoses while you're at it.
