The backing plate is where your brake shoe assembly is attached and holds the cylinder. On T1 and Karmann Ghia - these plates wear out due to water and rust - leading to loose brake shoes and grinding noises. This part is for the right rear - OEM 113 609 440E. Combine this with a new brake cylinder and brake shoes for a complete overhaul of your rear brake.
