This backing plate sits behind your rear brake and ensures the brake shoe remains securely in place. On T1s and Karmann Ghias (OEM 113 609 440C) - this plate is prone to rust - so check it carefully when overhauling your brakes. Replace it along with the other side for symmetrical braking performance - and combine this with a new brake shoe set for the best result.
