This rubber seal sits between the lens and the taillight housing and prevents water and dirt from entering. For T1 Beetle models, it's a frequently replaced part because the original rubbers dry out after decades and leave traces of corrosion. Replace it when you disassemble your taillights. Combine this with new sealing rings for a complete refresh of your taillight.
