This rubber is the lower connection between your rear axle and body on the Type 3, and ensures that vibrations and shocks are properly dampened. The OEM number 311 899 155 helps you find the correct size, as this part exists in different variants per model. After years, these rubbers rot or become porous, resulting in a looser feeling in the rear and unwanted vibrations. Combine this small part with the upper rubber (311 899 156) for a complete restoration of the axle suspension.
