For Type 3s, they are critical for maintaining smooth driving dynamics, especially if you drive a lot on unpaved roads. VW dimensioned them well with OEM number 311 899 117, so original remains the best choice here. Combine this with the upper buffers and you have a complete new set of elastic shock absorbers.
