This black plate is located on the engine lid of your T2 and T1b and indicates the year of manufacture 1978. The item frequently deformed due to heat and was easily damaged when opening the engine cover, so many original examples are no longer intact. This is a direct replacement that looks exactly the same. Combine it with a new rubber seal strip if you're already working on your engine cover.
